FLOWERS FOR JAPAN
Decontamination of the polluted soils utilizing through plants (Phyto-Remediation)
Production and sales of vegetable oil products to generate employment among the victims
Manufacturing of bio-gas and bio-ethanol
Biomass power generation
2nd & 3rd operations of [Flowers for Japan]
Planned Operations after [Flowers for Japan]

♥  To decrease radiation levels of polluted soils by utilizing the nutrient uptake and water absorption of plants.

♥  Phytoremediation should be utilized to decontaminate 1) the remaining radiation after concentrated decontamination (decontamination rate of soil-detachment is up to 75%,) 2) the areas which didn’t have concentrate decontamination  (cumulative exposure below 5mSv/yr,) and 3) the areas which is directly related with everyday human life, such as gardens, backyards, and shoulders of streets.

Since radioactive substances, cesium134, 137 and strontium90, are both water soluble, it is possible to make plants absorb them with water from soils.

♥  Since cesium and strontium are very similar to potassium and calcium which are nutrition for plants, it is possible to cause plants to absorb them as nutrition from soils.

The amount of radioactive substances will be decreased by the amount absorbed by the plants.

♥  Plants that are able to absorb a large amount of potassium can also absorb cesium, such as amaranth, lupines, canola blossom, and sweet potatoes.

♥  Since water and oil never mix, radioactive substances which are absorbed with water by plants also will not be absorbed in oil and fat. In other words, the vegetable oil extracted from the plants used to decontaminate soils doesn’t contain radioactive substances.

It is easy to produce inedible fat and oil products, such as candles and bar soap, and we can avoid financial damage by harmful rumors or misinformation because there is no restriction to put the place of origin. Also, we can promote employment for the victims who had lost their jobs if we could refine these fats and oils into bio-diesel gas for restoration of stricken area. We expect positive economic results from selling these products.

♥  Plants used for decontamination can be dealt with as low level radioactive waste after a reduction of their cubic capacity (into about 1/100) by fermentation and drying treatment.

♥  We can refine bio-ethanol by extracting alcohol during the fermentation process.

♥  We can produce bio-gas by extracting methane gas during the fermentation process.

♥  Both bio-ethanol and bio-gas are clean energy because they do not exhaust Co2, so this project is also an effective solution of global warming issues.

♥  Energy is the most important issue for Japan.

♥  By utilizing methane gas extracted from the process of polluted plant fermentation, we can generate power (biomass power generation). Biomass power generation does not exhaust Co2 and does not need fossil fuel or nuclear fuel, and it is also good for the environment because what generated is renewable energy.

♥  Biomass power generation can be beneficial to farmers who are not able to sell their crops due to contamination. The crops can be sold as a source for biomass power generation.

♥  Biomass power generation can generate power by using wood debris that resulted from tsunami. Power is generated while the stricken areas are restored.

♥  2nd operation: The salt ventilation of the agricultural land stricken by tsunami.

♥  3rd operation: Greening the land devastated by soil detachment decontamination.

♥  Building an “Urban Environment Model Town” which employs the highest ecological technology.

♥  Building environmental convention, tourist and medical facilities, as well as, educational institutions around the Urban Environment Model Town.
